Reality means different things to different people. It’s the naked truth that “Sach ka Samna” asks its participants to face or the twisted reality shown on Big Boss where participants rarely leave a chance to stab their “friends” in the back. Reality shows are not new to the Indian television. It probably started with the game of Antakshari, where the participants were common people. Those were the days of plain, normal game shows sans any controversy. With time, however, the reality shows have become more twisted and prone to controversies, more to raise the TRPs than showing “reality”. Though there are men as well as women participants in the reality shows, the females take the cake for bringing in the much needed glamour and spice to these shows. With Rakhi Sawant whining and crying on Big Boss or Nach Baliye 2, we switched channels just to see what all the chaos was about. As more channels started showing reality shows more of Rakhi’s clan joined in to make them the most popular shows being watched on Indian television. Here we take a look at some of the “leading ladies” of reality shows, those who have gone on to win these contests and some who have just raised the TRPs. 10.sherlyn chopra and monika bedi
Both have been part of the show Big Boss and have enough history to create interest on any reality show. These ladies, though new to this “field”, show promise of having just the heat needed on a reality show. Sherlyn in her recent appearance on Big Boss 3 created enough chaos for us to get up and take notice and who could forget the alleged Rahul – Monica link-up in the previous season?
9.Mandira Bedi
Mandira Bedi came to fore on reality shows with her stint as an anchor for Fame Gurukul. After this she has hosted several reality shows including game shows. She started participating in these shows with Arre Deewano Mujhe Pehchano which involved dressing the celebrities in disguise. She raked in some controversy when she got injured during a stunt on Khatron ke Khiladi 2.
8.Aditi Govitrikar
She holds an MBBS degree, however, she stopped practicing for a lucrative career in Bollywood. She became popular when she won the Mrs World pageant in 2001. She got noticed for reality show when she participated in Khatron ke Khiladi 1. With her recent show Big Boss 3 on air she too had her share of controversies surrounding around her divorce.
7.Mona Singh
The leading lady of Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin became popular through the reality shows for all the right reasons, that is, by winning them! She has been the winner of two dance reality shows, Jhalak Dhikla Jaa and Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena. She’s hosted a number of shows since then. However, how long she remains away from some scandal on TV remains to be seen.
6.Twinkle Bajpai
This is another budding reality show star with more than five reality shows under her belt. She became talk of the town when she walked out of Kaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket as she was placed in danger zone. She raised hell as she thought she didn’t really deserve to be there. With a long way to go, Twinkle stands at number six.
5.Kashmera Shah
In love with reality shows this lady is remembered for her role in Yes Boss. She first appeared with her beau Krushna in Nach Baliye 3. Since then she has participated in several such shows the latest being Iss Jungle se Mujhe Bachao, where she was criticized for revealing too much on national TV. Thus Kashmera Shah stands at 5th position.
4.Shweta Tiwari
Another TV actress going on her way to becoming a reality show star. She left acting in TV serials to take part in reality show Nach Baliye 2, where she teamed with her then husband Raja Choudhry. This lady recently became famous for her stint in the show Iss Jungle se Mujhe Bachao, by wearing skimpy outfits for the activities on the show. With several shows to write on her resume, there are many more to come.
3.Tanaaz Irani
Though bubbly and childish in nature, this is one lady who can quickly change her colors. She is extremely popular on TV sitcoms and has done some movies as well. She started participating in reality shows with Celebrity Fame Gurukul. Since then there has been no stopping this gorgeous woman. She recently got nominated for ouster from the house of Big Boss 3 for teaming up with her husband and participant in the same show. Most housemates are thinking of this couple being a threat. She has managed to remain away from controversy so far, but is there a different face behind this bubbly demeanor? This remains to be seen, for now Tanaaz is at number three.
2.Sambhavna Seth
At number two we have Sambhavna Seth, the runner up to the crown of reality show “queen”. She raked in enough TRPs for Big Boss 2 by doing exactly what she does best, creating a scandal out of nothing. She stands a tad bit behind Rakhi Sawant in being the most popular controversy star.

If there was an award for being mean and still being popular, Rakhi would be a winner hands down. This lady became extremely famous for her item numbers in both music videos and Bollywood films. With around ten reality shows in her credit, she is truly the queen of reality shows, doing everything from crying and being nice, to badmouthing her co-contestants, Rakhi doesn’t leave a stone unturned to make her show the “best” to watch.
